Dr. Fia Davis serves as Superintendent of Schools for Freeport Public Schools. With more than 30 years of experience in education, she brings a leadership approach rooted in service, joy, and a deep belief in the potential of every student. Her mission is to inspire children and adults to recognize their strengths and believe in what they can achieve.
Before joining Freeport, Dr. Davis served for two years as Superintendent of Bronx High Schools in Districts 8, 10, and 11. She served as Deputy Superintendent for two years. She also spent 15 years as a principal. During her four years leading Pathways College Preparatory School, the graduation rate increased from 67 percent to 94 percent. In 2006, she founded the Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts. She was later selected for the national Cahn Fellowship for Distinguished Principals at Columbia University.
Dr. Davis earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Africana Studies from the State University of New York at Albany, a master’s degree in Secondary Education from New York University, a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Pace University, and a doctorate in education from Fordham University.
She credits her grandmother, who taught her to read at the age of five, with inspiring her lifelong belief in the transformative power of education. Dr. Davis hopes her own journey reminds students that their goals are possible and that their backgrounds, experiences, and unique qualities can be sources of strength.
