Freeport Public Schools Reflects on the Life of a Dedicated Educator

Freeport Public Schools is saddened at the passing of Robert Lordi, a teacher at Freeport High School, on December 27, 2020. On behalf of Freeport Public Schools, we offer our deepest condolences to his family.

Mr. Lordi began his career as a special education teacher in the social studies department at Freeport High School in 2001 and was a dedicated, caring educator who always went above and beyond for students and colleagues. In addition to providing instruction and academic support, Mr. Lordi was involved in coaching students in modified football and wrestling, and then continued to supervise sports events. He was a warm, caring person with a genuinely good heart who could always be counted on to step up and volunteer when needed.

"Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Robert Lordi. His devotion and caring for our students and their families was evident in all he did. Robert was part of the fabric that makes up our Freeport Public Schools family," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. "We celebrate his years with us. Robert will be remembered for his commitment, sense of humor, and kindness, which permeated his interactions with everyone, myself included."

Colleagues who co-taught with Mr. Lordi felt their relationship went beyond sharing a classroom partnership. Their partnership became like a family, who could laugh together and finish each other's sentences. Students loved being in Mr. Lordi's classes and felt he made a lasting impact on their lives. "Robert Lordi will be sorely missed by his high school colleagues and students," said Principal Joseph Mille. "He was warm and caring with his students. He made sure they were doing the best they could to reach their potential. He was an active member of our special education department and his colleagues enjoyed teaching and working with Robert over these years. He never failed to step up and help out where needed."

Robert Lordi will be remembered as a dedicated educator, Changemaker, helpful colleague, and loyal friend.

In honor of Robert Lordi, the flags at the Administration Building and Freeport High School will be flown at half-mast on Wednesday, December 30th.
