For the first time in Freeport history, Freeport High School hosted the Nassau County Track and Field State Qualifier on May 29-30. Many of the best track and field athletes from more than thirty-five school districts participated in this event and had the opportunity to experience competing on the district's state-of-the-art athletic complex.
The universal feedback was highly complimentary regarding the facilities, hospitality and sportsmanship demonstrated by the Freeport athletes and spectators. Two FHS student-athletes senior Jonathan Greenwood and freshman Sarah Edmond, qualified for the NYS Championship, June 6-7 in Middletown, NY. Sarah qualified for the 100 meter, while Jonathan qualified for the 400 and 800 meter events. Jonathan is currently ranked 3rd in the State in the 400 meter. Jonathan was also voted Most Outstanding Track Athlete by the Boys' Official Association. He will be receiving that award on June 18 at the Woodlands Country Club.
