Board of Education Recognition

The week of Oct. 29-Nov. 2 has been designated by the New York State School Boards Association as School Board Recognition Week. During the Oct. 17 Board of Education meeting held at Bayview Avenue School of Arts & Sciences, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham, administrators, union leaders, students and parents expressed their appreciation to the members of the Board for their leadership and tireless efforts on behalf of the Freeport schools and students.

"Members of the Board of Education are volunteers who are unpaid elected officials," stated Dr. Kuncham. "They always advocate for our children and attend numerous school functions. They are visible on Long Island and are respected in Albany. They provide financial stewardship and leadership to ensure that our vision for all students is achieved in a safe and healthy environment. We thank them for all they do for our Freeport schools and children."

The highlight of the evening was the performance of a play - written by Geraldine LaPenne and co-produced by Jeannie Rodriguez and Ms. LaPenna especially for the occasion of Board recognition - titled "We Thank You Freeport Board of Education." In this highly energetic and entertaining musical, Bayview students portrayed members of the Board of Education, the superintendent of schools and members of central administration. Their enthusiasm and well-rehearsed performance were enjoyed by all and met with a standing ovation. In addition to the play, the members of the Board were pleasantly surprised to see on display each of their portraits, created by the very talented members of the Bayview Art Club.

Representatives from PTA Council and the different associations for administrators, teachers, teacher assistants and teacher aides, as well as members of the office staff, also presented tokens of appreciation to the Board, including several donations made to various charities in the honor of the Freeport Board of Education.
