Statement from Dr. Kishore Kuncham
Superintendent of Freeport Public Schools

We have been informed by the Police Department that Kaitlin Grant, a per diem substitute teacher and per diem teaching assistant who worked in the District within the past year was arrested earlier this morning, Friday, March 9, 2012 for an alleged criminal act and endangering the welfare of a child.

Ms. Grant has worked in a per diem capacity for the District since March 2011 and worked at Freeport High School, with the exception of one day at the J.W. Dodd Middle School. Ms. Grant had no prior criminal record and passed all background checks in compliance with New York State law. Ms. Grant will no longer work in the District.

The District is disturbed by these allegations. We are cooperating fully with the police and will continue to make the safety and well-being of our students and staff our top priority.

We ask that members of the media contact law enforcement representatives for any specific comment regarding the criminal complaint.
