Recognition Well Deserved

During the Board of Education's June meeting, several students, staff and volunteers were recognized for their noteworthy contributions to the district and its students.

Outstanding Employees-of-the-Month were introduced while a brief recap was read highlighting each person's unique characteristics and contributions. Employees-of-the-month included: Janet ,Lalmansingh Early Childhood Education Center; Donna Rusinek, Archer Street School; Geraldine LaPenne, Bayview Avenue School; Clorinda Pawlak, Leo F. Giblyn School; Beverly Losee, New Visions School; Matthew Yatsyla, Caroline G. Atkinson School; Angel Menendez, John W. Dodd Middle School; Michele Seaman, Freeport High School; Darrell Byrd, Buildings and Grounds; and Arthalia Brown, Administration Office. Each honoree received a plaque and a pin from Board of Education Vice President Debra Mulé and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham.

Representatives of Freeport High School's student government were honored as well. At each monthly board meeting during the school year, these student-representatives provided the Board of Education and community with an update on student government activities as well as interesting news and information about upcoming events and outstanding achievements. Four student government representatives - seniors Stephanie Morales (who will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall, studying mechanical engineering and participating in ROTC) and Brittany Spell (who will be attending St. John's University this fall, majoring in psychology and communication), and juniors Elizabeth Mulé and Bianca Molina - each received a certificate of appreciation and a pin.

PTA Council President Sue Lyons was also recognized for her untiring efforts and leadership on behalf of the PTA and Freeport students and parents.
