Students Take Cosmic Adventures During Columbus Avenue’s Discovery Day

Columbus Avenue Elementary School's kindergarten students took an interstellar journey during their annual Discovery Day on May 15.

The day-long event started in the school’s gymnasium where teachers and staff guided the young space explorers in several space-themed activities including rover races, comet toss challenges and hands-on experiences using moon sand and rock sorting.

In their classrooms, students read books about space, identified the different planets and learned about what astronauts do while in space. Students then programed bee-bots to navigate through space.

Teachers and students brought space to life in their classrooms and hallways by transforming them into different parts of the solar system. Students toured the school captivating them with displays of comets, constellations, meteors, planets and the sun.

Discovery Day at Columbus was truly stellar and inspired students to reach for the stars.
