The front lawn of the Bayview Avenue Elementary School in the Freeport School District was flooded with students, staff and administrators wearing bright yellow t-shirts with the message "Heal the World" across the front as they gathered to mark the close of the school's Heal the World t-shirt fundraiser to support Ukrainian children.

The t-shirt fundraiser collected $2,020 which will be donated to the Save the Children: Children's Emergency Fund. These proceeds will go directly to support the children of Ukraine in need of the most basic necessities such as clothing, food, blankets and pillows.

Lead math teacher, Erica Ruge, who helped to organize the fundraiser read an original, inspiring poem, "So let's do our best to spread love through Bayview, because healing our world starts with us - me and you," she said and followed the poem with thanks and gratitude for such a successful fundraiser.

Bayview Avenue second grade teacher Ms. Yvette Goldstein, who initiated the fundraiser, announced the total amount of money raised and then read a letter from the Save the Children: Children's Emergency Fund which thanked Bayview for their generous donation and explained the importance of their donation and how it will impact the Ukrainian children refugees.

Ending the event, the entire school and staff, joined by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and administrators, sang a moving rendition of Michael Jackson's hit, Heal the World, led by the fourth grade NYSSMA students, while teachers and students held up signs of support for Ukraine made in class prior to the gathering.

While the fundraiser only ran in the Bayview Avenue School, administrators and staff districtwide donated to the fundraiser to show their support.
