Students Take A Space Adventure To The Moon

The Freeport Public Schools' second grade students at Bayview Avenue were visited by representatives from the Vanderbilt Museum to learn about space and the moon.

This exciting, interactive program brought students from earth and followed with them "blasting off" into space.

The program began with students learning about the four stages of the water cycle on earth and about the different types of clouds. Students even took part in a kinesthetic exercise to interpret each phase of the water cycle and bring it to life!

Next the students boarded a spaceship where they passed by the sun. The program then changed focus to the moon where students explored its surface features and phases.

Finally, the second graders learned about the historic Apollo 11 program and were taken on a virtual moon walk where they watched real footage of scientific experiments and discussed the Artmeis space program.
