On Friday, Sept. 10 the Freeport Public Schools held a variety of 9/11 Remembrance Events to honor those who sacrificed their lives and to thank those who are working to keep the community and world safe today.

The Board of Education represented by Board President Maria Jordan-Awalom, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham, administrators, staff and students observed a moment of silence, and expressed their gratitude and appreciation during ceremonies held throughout the district.

"Thank you to our heroes and to those who sacrificed their lives," Dr. Kuncham said. "To our students, each one of you are the leaders and the change makers of the future. Change begins within us. Spread the message of peace and love in our schools, our community and our world."

Students wearing red, white and blue and carrying American flags proudly displayed their patriotism as they said the Pledge of Allegiance, read poems, and created American flags as ways of honoring the memory of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2020.
