Bayview Students Learn Fire Safety and Prevention
Posted on 03/08/2021

The third-grade classes at Bayview Avenue Elementary School within Freeport Public Schools recently had a virtual visit from Freeport firefighters as part of the school's Hooked-on-Firefighters Program.

The visit was the second class of four for the school year and students learned about and reviewed their own home escape plans. During each virtual classroom visit, the firefighters recapped important fire safety and prevention tips including how to prevent a fire, procedures in the event of a fire, and the Stop, Drop and Roll method.

The Bayview Hooked-on-Firefighters Program is in its 15th year. The program, which kicked-off in November, assigns a Freeport firefighter to virtually visit with students throughout the school year providing important fire safety prevention education. The program was developed by Bayview's social worker Cindy Misrock.
