On July 8 former Board of Education President and former Freeport High School Principal Ernest J. Kight Jr. was memorialized with the unique distinction of having So. Brookside Avenue named Ernest J. Kight Jr. Way.

The selection of this particular avenue was especially significant as it is located at the intersection of Pine Street and directly faces Freeport High School, where Mr. Kight served as high school principal before retiring and becoming a board of education trustee and president.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham along with members of the board of education, administrators and staff joined local elected officials and members of Mr. Kight's family and friends to witness the moving unveiling ceremony honoring his life and dedication to the students of Freeport and the Freeport community.

"Mr. Kight truly cared about people and gave everything to his students," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. "He made them better. He made a positive impact on generations of students and their families along with all those who had the pleasure of working with him. He was certainly an inspiration to all. I would also like to extend a special thank you to Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé, Legislative Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran for making this event possible."
