Message from the Superintendent: Rumored Threats Against Schools
Posted on 12/16/2021

Dear Freeport Families,

We have received communication from Nassau County Police Department and Homeland Security that nationally there are videos posted on TikTok warning of impending attacks on schools Friday, Dec. 17. There is no specific threat in the posts or re-posts and we are advised that these posts have no identified connection to Freeport or any Nassau County school.

Recently, we had a rumored threat on TikTok against J.W. Dodd Middle School. The Freeport Police and Nassau County Police Departments worked swiftly to identify the individuals responsible and confirmed that the rumor was not a credible threat.

We encourage all students to attend school on Friday, Dec. 17 as usual. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be increased police presence at all schools in Freeport by both Freeport Police and the Nassau County Police Departments.

We encourage you to speak to your children about the appropriate use of social media and the importance of saying something to a trusted adult should they see or hear anything that raises concerns. Please do not forward any inappropriate or threatening posts and notify authorities without delay. The safety and health of our school community is our highest priority, and we will continue to monitor the security in all our buildings. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Regards.

Dr. Kishore Kuncham
