Message from the Superintendent: Remote Instruction for Week of January 3 - 7, 2022
Posted on 12/30/2021

Dear Freeport Families,

I hope you are all enjoying a relaxing, healthy and safe Winter Break so far. Along with meeting the academic needs of our students, we continue to place the highest priority on the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. We understand there are no easy answers as we return to our schools facing the escalating increase of positive COVID cases. Governor Hochul has warned of a surge in COVID cases for January. In an abundance of caution, due to the increase of positivity rates on Long Island along with the potential of staffing impact, Freeport Public Schools will be moving to emote instruction for the week of Monday, January 3 through Friday, January 7,2022 for all students.

During the week of remote instruction, please be aware of the following:

· Students should log on to the link to their Google classrooms at the start of the school day. You will receive further instructions regarding this from your school building administration and teachers

· Grab and Go Meals will be served Monday through Friday starting January 3rd at Freeport High School from 9:30 AM -12 PM

· Any determination regarding in-person or remote instruction for the week of January 10th will be communicated to you by the end of next week or sooner

· Please make sure to check for updated communications from the teachers, your school administration and the District

· The District in partnership with ATC Healthcare Services will continue to provide weekly COVID testing. Starting next week, testing will be offered twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays at the Caroline G. Atkinson School from 3PM -5PM. Please register for this service via the link on our website

· Information regarding COVID testing kits from New York State to be distributed through the school districts will be communicated from the school buildings at a later date when the kits have been received

Despite our gains against COVID-19 and our ability to reopen our schools fully in-person, this has continued to be a challenging year. Our resilience against the pandemic and the ability of our staff, students and families to continue to adapt and function is a testament to our determination to always provide our children with excellent educational opportunities. We continue to inspire change, growth, and transform challenges into successes.

We remind you that our best defense against the virus is vaccinations and boosters. We strongly encourage all eligible students and their families to become vaccinated. Please continue to follow all health and safety precautions including the wearing of masks, physical distancing and washing your hands. We appreciate all your support and cooperation as we work together during this pandemic.

The Board of Education and I wish you a very happy, healthy New Year.

Regards,

Dr. Kishore Kuncham
