A select group of 20 kindergarten through fourth grade students from Archer Street and Giblyn Elementary schools were chosen to have their artwork featured in the Long Island Children's Museum Community Gallery for the month of April.
The gallery was established by the museum to encourage children to participate in the visual arts and share the creativity of students with museum visitors. Archer Street art teacher Lisa Scarola and Leo F. Giblyn art teacher Susan Warren submitted the students' artwork for consideration and due to their excellent craftsmanship, use of materials and originality their pieces were chosen for display.
"The pieces of artwork that were hung in this gallery are a small representation of the creativity that is shown by the kindergarten through fourth grade students at the Giblyn and Archer Street schools," said Ms. Susan Warren, art teacher. "The art students are exposed to various art elements and principles throughout their elementary years, so they are able to gain a deeper understanding of what makes an art composition successful."
During the past year art instruction has changed due to the pandemic, but the students and teachers have worked diligently to ensure art education continues and creativity levels rise.
