The Honorable Joy Watson invited members of Dodd Middle School's peer mediation team on a tour of the Nassau County District Court in Hempstead.
Sargent Joseph Dentici and Court Officer Christopher Martino spoke with students about the vital role of maintaining safety and explained the functions of the different courts, before taking the team to three different types of arraignment courts.
The tour guides also made a special stop in the courthouse where small claims are mediated by professional mediators. Throughout the morning, students learned about careers in the law profession including court clerks, translators, probation officers, district attorneys and legal aid attorneys.
