Message from the Superintendent COVID-19 Update 12-5-2020

December 5, 2020

Dear Freeport Families

The health and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We appreciate your continued partnership as we navigate together the challenges and requirements the COVID pandemic has brought to our lives.

Based on revisions to the micro-cluster zone guidance released by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) on December 4, 2020, I am providing additional information regarding COVID-19 testing requirements related to Micro-Cluster Zone designations. Although we do not have this designation as of this communication, we are preparing so that we can move quickly to meet testing requirements if necessary. Please click on this link to view the revised micro-cluster zone guidance https://forward.ny.gov/cluster-action-initiative.

In case the State designates Freeport as a Micro-Cluster Zone, we will be required to conduct random testing of in-person students and staff. Freeport Public Schools will be partnering with a third party healthcare provider, Around the Clock Health Care (ATC). COVID-19 testing will be carried out at each school by ATC. All testers are trained and certified medical practitioners and are familiar with pediatric techniques. They will be administering a pediatric version of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test that requires a minimally invasive swab of the nasal cavity.

If you would like your child tested at school, please complete the Consent for COVID-19 Testing Form. You will have the option to have your child tested at school or through your own healthcare provider. If you have more than one child, please fill out one form for each child. All consent forms must be completed by Friday, December 11, 2020.

Your participation in COVID-19 in-school testing is encouraged. Based on testing results or if testing parameters cannot be met, the NYSDOH may decide to close schools for in-person classes and transition to remote instruction for all students.

COVID-19 guidance and requirements from the NYSDOH and the state is being revised often. We will continue to keep you informed. Please follow the safety protocols regarding gatherings and the quarantine regulations for travel. Remember M-S-W: Wear your mask, Social distance and Wash your hands.

Regards,

Dr. Kishore Kuncham
