The district is proud to announce that Freeport High School science teacher Mr. Edward Irwin was chosen as Nassau County's 2019 Most Outstanding High School Science Teacher of the Year during the 22nd annual Nassau Science Teachers Association of New York State Award Dinner.

During the school year, Mr. Irwin teaches five research classes every day for students in grades 9-12. In his freshman classes, he introduces students to the tools for scientific research and, at the end of the second quarter, the students decide on a research topic to investigate for the next three and half years. As a result of their research work, Mr. Irwin's students have been awarded top prizes in local, state and national science competitions.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Mr. Irwin initiated partnerships with nearby colleges, universities and government laboratories to generate several opportunities for his students and enhance the reputation of science research in the Freeport School District.

Congratulates Mr. Irwin on this accomplishment!
