Students at the high school put their vocals to the test during the fifth annual Freeport Idol competition.
The popular event, based on the national singing competition television series "American Idol," featured 10 students individually performing songs and being critiqued by three special judges: Mahendra Morales, Talonda Thomas and Justin Friedman, all music teachers at Atkinson. The first-, second- and third-place winners in the 2017 Freeport Idol contest were Michael Desir, Mayralee Martinez and Jasmine Tejada, respectively.
