Students in the Big Leagues
Posted on 03/07/2016

In room 502 at Atkinson, members of the University of Pennsylvania team are completing the Jackie Robinson module. Students read Promises to Keep and researched prominent black figures who broke barriers to fight for equality and civil rights. The students in Ms. Ferrarelli and Mr. Wall's classes presented what they learned by creating art and highlighting the impact that individuals, including Langston Hughes, W.E.B DuBois, Shirley Chisholm, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Althea Gibson, Zora Neale Hurston's and Paul Laurence Dunbar, had on society. Students are making real world connections, as well as using their background knowledge from Esperanza Rising during their analysis of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights." Students are encouraged to keep up the splendid work.
