Students at New Visions participated in a variety of activities in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday and National Read Across America Day on March 2.
Students in all grade levels celebrated the iconic children's author's special day by creating colorful hats, and wearing them while their teachers read his books aloud. In two side-by-side classrooms, students were treated to special readings by Teacher 1 and Teacher 2, named after Seuss characters Thing 1 and Thing 2. In another classroom, students created their own versions of green eggs and ham - aptly named after one of Seuss' most popular books - using green pudding, sprinkles and cookies to represent the yolk. As a culminating activity, they enjoyed cake and sang "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss, who would have been 112 years old.
National Read Across America Day served not only as a fun and educational way to promote the importance of reading to students, but to also honor the life and work of Dr. Seuss.
