A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage
Posted on 09/27/2015

At the Board of Education's September meeting, community residents, staff members and administrators were treated to a wonderful musical performance by students in celebration of Hispanic heritage.

Atkinson students kicked off the celebration by individually detailing the lives and accomplishments of iconic Hispanic legends Tito Puente and Carlos Santana in English and Spanish. Students then showcased their musical talents in a remarkable rendition of"Oye Como Va," a hit that both Puente and Santana popularized during their careers. Hispanic heritage will be celebrated in each school throughout the month of October.

Also at the meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham was presented with a plaque by the Board of Education on behalf of Rev. Edward J. Norman of the Freeport United Methodist Church. Dr. Kuncham was honored for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the students and families of Freeport Public Schools.

The meeting served not only as a precursor to Hispanic Heritage month, but also highlighted the talents of the Atkinson's students during their spirited performance.
