The robotics team was crowned champion at a tournament held at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Flushing, and is heading to the National tournament in April in Iowa.

The Red Devil Robotics team entered two robots in the competition. Despite an impressive effort, the B team was unable to move past the quarterfinals. The A team defeated Jericho and Port Washington by a score of 26-23 to secure the national invitation. Since the A team reached the final round, it also qualified for the Southern New York State Championship in March at East Rockaway High School.

The team is led by driver Joshua Jean-Jacques, assistants Jonathan Ramos, Jaren Mills and Abigail Aguilar, and programmer Justin Merritt.

"I am very proud of our entire group for working together," advisor Kevin Harrison said."The A team earned this accomplishment through its hard work designing and building the robot."

The Red Devils Robotics team will be hosting its first robotics competition at the high school on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All community residents are invited to attend.
