District Hosts First Robotics Tournament

The district hosted its first robotics competition at the high school, welcoming 30 teams from 20 schools and organizations for the largest VEX tournament on Long Island.

Five teams represented the district -Students of the high school's marching band and color guard reported to the school on Aug. 10-14 for a weeklong training session on the field.

The camp, which was held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, was led by Freeport High School Band Director Michael LaSorsa and Dodd Middle School Band Director Adam Rubin. Each day, the students prepared for their performances in the upcoming 2015-2016 school year by practicing several skills including synchronization, formation, and working together to create visually and musically sound masterpieces.

The marching band camp reinforced the components of a successful musical ensemble, and also served to give students a head start on polishing their crafts.

three Red Devils Robotics teams from the high school and one each from Dodd and Atkinson. Red Devils Robotics won the Judges Award, which is based on criteria including team displays of exemplary effort, perseverance and season accomplishments.

Red Devils Robotics will next compete at the Southern New York State Championships on March 7 in East Rockaway, and will also head to Iowa in April to compete for the National Championship.
