Freeport High School's 10th annual Science and Engineering Fair spotlighted the technically advanced research projects conducted by students in the district in an exhibition that seemed to transform the school gym into a research laboratory. "We hope that their experience in the fair encourages them to pursue careers in science, engineering and mathematics," said Director of Science Dr. Vincent Pereira.

The 47 individual projects spanning a variety of categories were clearly the result of intense work by research students meticulously guided by their advisers. Judges from within the ranks of the school district, local accredited colleges and universities, science-related industries and the Village of Freeport evaluated the projects using a point system that weighed research displayed, methods used, validity of conclusions and the students' fluency in answering relevant questions.

The many rows of trifold posters neatly presented the ambitious theorems, data-driven charts and analytic graphs revealing the scope of the student work.

The school competition challenges students to advance their scientific curiosity, methodically research and record data, and resolve questions quickly, accurately and efficiently. Several entrants had already been recognized for their hard work at regional competitions.
