Freeport Board of Education Approves Veterans Tax Exemption
Posted on 03/16/2014

On March 12, 2014 pursuant to the recently amended New York Real Property Tax Law §458-a, the Freeport School District Board of Education held public hearings to consider whether or not to adopt resolutions which would authorize a partial real property tax exemption to certain qualified veterans and Gold Star Parents residing within the district.

The veterans who may benefit from this partial exemption are: non-combat veterans, combat veterans, disabled veterans and Gold Star Parents, who are parents of a deceased veteran who served during a period of war.

During the Board of Education meeting immediately following the pubic hearings, the board unanimously approved a resolution granting partial real property tax exemption to qualified veterans under RPTL §458-a residing in Class 1 (residential dwellings) and Class 2 (co-ops) within the district and allows veterans under RTPL §458-a to transfer, on a pro-rated basis, his/her exemption to another property purchased within the district.
