Freeport High School senior Cory Nezin has been named a semifinalist in the 2014 U.S. Physics Olympiad. Cory is one of seven students from Long Island to join approximately 400 students from the across the country who have also reached this level. Cory's ranking is based on his performance on the U.S. Physics Olympiad examination.

"Dr. Capalbo (science teacher) trains students for the U.S. Physics Olympiad examination," said District Coordinator of Science Dr. Vincent Pereira. "Cory's success, in some way, is a tribute to his teaching. I am very pleased that this has borne fruit."

The next step for Nezin is another competitive physics examination. If he advances to the next level, he will have the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C., to be trained by scientists and meet President Obama.
