A select group of first- and second-grade students at New Visions Elementary School are participating in the Strategic Thinking Enrichment Program (STEP) through the benefit of the 21st Century Learning Grant.
These students, chosen by their teachers for strong academic skills, tenacity for strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, have the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on, project-based activities. The program is run under the leadership of teaching assistant Rachel Kugelmass.
The goal of the program is to provide experiences to expand students' critical thinking skills and foster higher levels of learning that tie into the New York State Common Core Learning Standards.
