As part of the district's participation in the 21st Century program, technology teacher Jim Wandzilak and music teacher Mike Young merged their respective talents and disciplines to create a unique learning experience for the students at J.W. Dodd Middle School.
Using kits purchased with grant monies provide by the 21st Century Program and the Long Island Technology Educators and Engineers Association (LITEEA) students had the unique opportunity to design, create and assembly their own ukuleles. Once the students had successfully completed their projects, they learned about music theory and how to play the ukulele.
The students were able to take home their instruments which they can enjoy playing and be proud for years to come. The instructors would like to thank the 21st Century Program and the LITEEA for their support. The synergy between technology and music created an unforgettable experience for both the students and the teachers.
