The Project Challenge fourth-graders from Bayview Avenue School participated in a very special Cradle of Aviation Museum enrichment program through which they learned the basics of high technologies, including aeronautics, weather forecasting and robotics.

Over the course of 10 visits to the museum, the students became so well versed in their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) lessons that they prepared presentations and hands-on experiments for approximately 120 of their fellow fourth-grade classmates.

"These studets came to us as part of our STEM program," said Cradle of Aviation Museum Educator Rick Angler. "Now they are showing their schoolmates what they learned."

Students set up nine unique stations in the gymnasium, with various lessons and activities taking place at each. The informational workshops explored topics such as space travel, pollution, robotics, rocket design, weather, renewable energy and the mysteries of the solar system.

Freeport is one of a handful of Long Island school districts to participate the Cradle of Aviation Museum STEM program. The district's New Visions School also participated in the program. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham is an active member of the Cradle of Aviation advisory board.
