John W. Dodd Middle School Graduates Celebrate Success
Posted on 06/25/2013

The Freeport High School gymnasium was filled with proud family members and invited guests as the graduating class of John W. Dodd Middle School celebrated a milestone in their academic careers. Board of Education President Debra Mulé, along with Board Vice President Vilma Lancaster, Board trustee Ronald Ellerbe, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and several members of central administration, were in attendance to congratulate and applaud the graduating students.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the national anthem, Dr. Kuncham extended a warm welcome and congratulations to the students. "We have learned a great deal from each other," he said. "Rely on your inner strength and resolve to face challenges, and always do your best and maintain your honesty and integrity." Dr. Kuncham went on to thank the families and noted that this important day would not have happened without their ongoing support. Interim Principal Robert Micucci proudly announced, "This outstanding graduating class has the highest passing rate in several years and will surely be one for the record books." Assistant Principal Paulette Acquavito also spoke and provided words of wisdom. "Remember, hard work pays off, never accept second best and always listen to your parents because they will never let you down," she stated.

The John W. Dodd Middle School Select Chorus treated the audience to a very special musical performance. As they sang "Total Praise" by Richard Smallwood, under the direction of Sherill Spruill, eighth-grade student Isaac Zellner performed a moving interpretive dance and the audience responded with an enthusiastic round of applause.

Several outstanding students were also recognized with special awards before the Class of 2013 received their diplomas. As each graduate's name was announced, Ms. Mulé and Ms. Acquavito presented each student with a diploma. There were tears and smiles when the audience burst into applause as the students exited the gymnasium accompanied by the John W. Dodd Middle School Symphonic Ensemble, who performed "Sine Nomine" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, under the direction of Candice Mordhorst. It was a memorable day for all and the beginning of a bright future at Freeport High School.
