Giblyn Students Pay It Forward
Posted on 06/20/2013

Students and staff at Leo F. Giblyn were quick to respond to help the residents of Moore, Oklahoma after their town was hit by an EF5 tornado on May 20, 2013. After the district and Giblyn Elementary School received so much assistance following Superstorm Sandy, the students and staff were eager to assist others in need.

The fourth-grade presidents and vice-presidents held a meeting and decided to hold a "Coins for Oklahoma" fundraiser. All students and staff were encouraged to bring in any loose change they had and deposit it into a designated container in each classroom. Every morning, the presidents and vice-presidents collected the coins and a parent brought the loose change to the bank every day to turn the coins into dollar bills. Every afternoon, an announcement was made over the school's public address system telling the students and staff how much money had been raised that day. The fundraiser began on Thursday, May 23 and ended on Friday, May 31. The grand total raised was a whopping $2,502.78. The success of this fundraiser clearly demonstrates the generosity and concern for others shown by the students, their parents and staff.
