Freeport Hosts Grand Opening For New Turf Field
Posted on 09/07/2012

Freeport High School hosted a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 7 for its new synthetic turf field, just minutes before the Red Devils football team took the field for their home opener against Plainview.

The district has successfully completed the installation of the new $1.9 million turf field, along with state-of-the-art field lighting, at no additional cost to taxpayers. The turf was funded as part of a voter-approved capital reserve fund project.

This new athletic field complex will provide a consistent playing surface for Freeport's student-athletes in the years ahead, and will also serve as a source of pride for the school district and community.

"This is a very exciting evening for Freeport. This $1.9 million project was completed within the budget, on time and at no additional cost to taxpayers," stated Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham." Thank you all for coming out tonight." Board of Education President Debra Mule added "We are thrilled, excited and so proud of our community, children and everyone responsible for this wonderful project. Go Red Devils."

It was a night and a game to remember. The final score was Plainview 14 Freeport 12.
