Giblyn Goes Green with Jets Tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson
Posted on 10/02/2012

New York Jets tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, a Freeport Schools alumnus, visited Giblyn Elementary School to read his recently published children's book, much to the delight of the students and staff.

"It's about working together with friends to face challenges in a fair and productive way," commented Ferguson on the theme of the book titled "Brick's Way, Go Green!" In the story. Ferguson transforms into a younger version of himself named Little Brick who helps a group of students faced with a looming deadline to develop a more eco-friendly science project. His next challenge is to then transform back to his full-grown self in time for an important pro football game. "Going green" has a double meaning for Mr. Ferguson being that green is the main color of the New York Jets.

After reading the story, the 6-foot-6-inch Ferguson awarded sports bags filled with Jets paraphernalia (including a 2012-2013 yearbook) to any student who could correctly answer questions relating to the book.

Ferguson's wife Kirsten and his parents Rhunette and Edwin Ferguson Sr. were on hand to assist him. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham spoke to the students about the many ways they can save energy at home and in school, and detailed how green initiatives have resulted in cost efficiencies for the school district as well.

Ferguson was presented with an album of messages written by the Giblyn students in appreciation of his visit to their school.
