Celebrating Grandparents Day
Posted on 10/09/2012

Students from Bayview Avenue School celebrated Grandparents Day with a performance for the residents of the Meadowbrook Care Center on West Merrick Road.

"We thank you for all that you have done for this community and country," said Principal Odette Wills in her welcoming remarks. "We are very grateful."

The assisted care center, located directly across the street from the school, provided the perfect venue and a willing audience for the students' performance.

Ms. Muchnick's second-grade class sang a special version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" with lyrics tailored for the seniors watching the show. Next up was Ms. Ruge's fourth-grade class, who performed an original comedic skit called "Eight Uses for Grandma," followed by kindergartners singing "The Grandparents Song." Ms. Walker's second-grade class performed the finale, an energetic and loving Grandparents Day version of Ricky Martin's "The Cup of Life."

After receiving vigorous applause the students returned to their school building with the knowledge that they had brought smiles and cheer to the residents of the nursing home.
