Young Artists’ Work on Display
Posted on 05/13/2012

As of May 1 and continuing until June 1, the artwork of 47 kindergarten students from the Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Center will be on display in the Community Gallery at the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City.

"It is important to understand that art teaches children more than shapes and colors," explained Columbus art teacher Susan Warren. "It opens up a world that includes decision-making skills and problem-solving processes, and it celebrates multiple perspectives. One of the biggest lessons a child can learn is that there are many ways to see and interpret the world. Art allows them the freedom to do that."

The Columbus Avenue art program provides Freeport's youngest art students with the opportunity to explore the process of creating art while being exposed to the great masters and illustrators of the art world.

The exhibit at the Long Island Children's Museum is just a sampling of the various works of art that the kindergarten children at Columbus have been working on this year. The philosophy at Columbus is, "Art is messy fun."
