The Freeport Public Schools recently hosted an informational breakfast for local realtors with the intention of reaching out to these vital community members to reinforce their symbiotic relationship with the district.

The invitation-only breakfast roundtable was held at Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School and was brought together by Superintendent Kishore Kuncham. In his welcoming address, Dr. Kuncham highlighted the prudent fiscal policies of the Freeport Board of Education and noted, "Freeport Schools' AA bond rating is among the highest in New York State while only averaging a tax levy increase of 1.98% over the past six years." He proudly listed the initiatives that realtors can use to better market home sales in Freeport, including the new afterschool program of Academics and Arts sponsored by The United Way and JP Morgan Chase Bank, the addition of technically advanced learning tools in the buildings, and the latest infrastructural improvements, such as the new turf field at the high school coming this fall.

"We want to build this relationship to help promote Freeport Public Schools and the community," said Board of Education Trustee and local realtor Ronald Ellerbe. In a nod to the superintendent and the Freeport school system, he added, "What you do as educators makes my job as a realtor easier."

In a firsthand demonstration of the quality of arts and education within the district, the Atkinson School 6th Grade Select Chorus, led by Dr. Talonda Thomas, performed "He Ain't Heavy" and "Stand Together" and received a standing ovation for both. "When you see children perform and produce in this manner, know that a lot of academic work is behind it," stated Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Wafa Westervelt. "All of our programs are meaningful and valuable."

Each realtor was provided with a packet of information detailing the many achievements within the school system. "Take a tour of the buildings. There is always something positive going on," was the resonating comment made by Freeport Schools Executive Director for Operations Mike Singleton as he reviewed the numerous selling points within the packet.
