"These are our future doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists and educators," were the prophetic words Columbus Avenue Principal Peggy Miller used to describe the cadre of kindergarten graduates leaving Columbus Avenue for the four elementary schools in Freeport.
The 9 a.m. outdoor ceremony, one of three that day, provided a picturesque setting for each student to proudly walk up to the podium to receive a certificate of achievement and pose for a quick photo. Parents, grandparents, guardians, siblings and friends were on hand to applaud this first academic milestone. Superintendent ofSchools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and Board of Education trustee Ron Ellerbe were also on hand to observe the procession.
The Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Education Center is the gateway to the school system in Freeport, providing each student with the appropriate social and academic skills necessary for achievement as they progress in their academic careers.
