Fifth-grade art students from Atkinson Intermediate School were honored at Town Hall in Hempstead for their part in making posters that promote good dental hygiene. Their initial challenge, sponsored by the Nassau County Dental Society, was to create artwork that supports the theme "Rock Your Smile" while gently advocating frequent toothbrushing, the limit of sugary snacks and regular visits to a dentist.

Principal Linda Carter, fifth-grade art teacher Emily Hertzberg and family members were on hand to celebrate with the students as they each received a certificate of achievement from Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and a goody bag containing oral health-related contents.

The top winner was Andy Cruz Rosario, followed by Sarah Casciano and Viandy Abreu. Dezarae Hall, Yamilet Peralta, Stephanie Castillo, Abigail Johnson, Fallon Dirmeir, Jahmel Maynor-Mendez, Renelle Rospide, Nigel McKnight and Joshua Stevens all garnered honorable mention.
