A Message from the Superintendent
Posted on 12/17/2012

On Friday morning, an unspeakable tragedy took place in Newtown, Connecticut in which innocent children and staff members lost their lives. Freeport parents, like parents across the country, share in the unimaginable grief of the Newtown families affected by this horrific event.

Parents across the nation, quite naturally, have their own concerns about their children's safety in their schools. Please know that our first priority is the safety of our children. Meetings were held with all principals and key administrators to reiterate our own safety practices and procedures. All staff members have been trained in security procedures and these procedures are now being reviewed with all staff in each building.

Teachers, psychologists, guidance counselors, social workers and administrators are available to offer assistance to children as needed. For additional resources on helping your child deal with their emotional response to this tragedy, please visit the National Association of School Psychologists website.

Hug your child and reassure them that they are safe. Monitor the kind of media coverage of this tragic event to which your children may be exposed. And keep the devastated Newtown families in your thoughts and prayers.
