Anthony J. Miller - New Board of Education Member

At the Board of Education meeting held on August 21, 2012, Anthony J. Miller was appointed to serve as a member of the Board of Education effective August 22, 2012 through May 21, 2013. Mr. Miller was appointed by the Board of Education to fill a vacancy that was created due to the resignation of former Board President Debra McQuillan, who recently resigned due to health issues.

The Board of Education is excited to welcome Mr. Miller to the Board. He has a strong record of community involvement and civic leadership. Board President Mrs. Debra Mulé stated, "We are pleased to have him join us and we look forward to the benefit his contribution will bring to the schools and to the children of Freeport."

Anthony Miller is a graduate of the Freeport High School Class of 2001 and a third generation graduate of the Freeport school system. Mr. Miller has been very involved with Freeport Public Schools as he is currently a member of Freeport Cares and serves as a member of the Freeport Schools Scholarship & Honors Board. Mr. Miller also served as a member of the district's recent Bond Referendum Committee.

He currently serves on the Board of the Commission for the Conservation of the Environment of Freeport, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Freeport-Roosevelt NAACP and Chairs the Political Action Committee. Mr. Miller served on the North Main Street Revitalization Project Steering Committee for the Village of Freeport and continues to advocate for greater economic development within Freeport.

Mr. Miller is very active in working with Freeport youth. He has worked within the Youth Department of Zion Cathedral, served on the Emmanuel District Youth Advisory Board and has worked with the Freeport Youth Outreach, now known as Freeport PRIDE. As the Director of Senior Citizens Affairs at the Freeport Recreation Center, Mr. Miller has been involved with Freeport's senior citizens. Currently, he serves as an Administrative Assistant, Business Development, for an insurance company.

Mr. Miller has strong relationships with local civic leaders, has been involved with Freeport's youth, its senior citizens and its clergy. In addition to Mr. Miller's strong ties to the Freeport Community, he has been active and supportive of Freeport School District initiatives and continues to work toward the improvement of the Freeport Schools.

"It means the world to me to have been presented with this opportunity to serve my community as a member of the Freeport Board of Education. Four generations of my family have benefited from the great education received from this system and to have an opportunity to serve as a member of the Board is an incredibly humbling experience. I thank the Board for their confidence in my ability and look forward to the year ahead," stated Mr. Miller.
