Homecoming – Great Win, Great Day!
Posted on 10/22/2011

Homecoming 2011 was truly a day to remember! The campus of Freeport High School was alive with school spirit and community pride as the time approached for the big game. It was standing-room-only as the crowd filled the bleachers. The Freeport High School Navy Junior ROTC led the homecoming parade that included the high school marching band, the Homecoming Court, and cheerleaders onto the field. The band played the national anthem as the JROTC presented the flag at the 50-yard line.

Prior to the game, many of the Freeport school PTAs populated the high school parking lot with their fundraising activities. Some sold food items, beverages, apparel and crafts. Others were offering raffle tickets for Freeport merchandise and team related items including team-autographed footballs.

The cheerleaders demonstrated all of their athletic skills, teamwork and cheerleading talents as they rallied the crowd in support of their Red Devils. Only one team was going to finish this day undefeated! Both the Red Devils and the East Meadow Jets came to this game with a season record of 5 and 0.

Welcomed by rousing applause from their loyal fans, the Red Devils ran onto the field determined to give their fans what they came to see - another win. The roar of the crowd grew even louder, as the Red Devils scored on their first possession. After recovering an East Meadow Jets fumble Freeport used 11 plays to move 63 yards for a quick 6-0, soon to be 7-0, lead with 7:31 on the clock in the first quarter.

As a special tribute, Legislator David W. Denenberg presented Board of Education President Debra McQuillan, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and Freeport High School with a special Nassau County Legislature Citation in recognition of their commitment to make a difference in Freeport on the occasion of the Annual Homecoming Parade.

Determined not to disappoint, the Red Devils continued to entertain the crowd with their commitment to win. As the final seconds of the clock ticked down, and the crowd began to cheer even louder, the Red Devils protected their home field and claimed another victory. The final score: Freeport Red Devils 44 - East Meadow Jets 29. While a jubilant crowd began leaving the field, there was a renewed sense of Freeport Pride. It was a great day, a great win, and a Homecoming 2011 to remember!
