Posted on 03/23/2011

CONGRATULATIONS to Jason Araya, a Freeport High School Junior, who has been elected as the 2011-2012 Historian of the New York State Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Jason is the first Freeport student to earn this distinction. DECA is a student-centered educational/professional organization whose mission is to enhance students with interests in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. DECA helps students develop skills and competencies for marketing careers. The organization helps students build self-esteem, experience, leadership and practice community service. Leadership conferences are offered during the summer, fall and spring at the State level. Freeport School students have competed at the International level as well.

As the Historian, Jason will be responsible for chronicling the history of DECA through photos of events and preparation of a CD/DVD at the end of the year. The Freeport Schools is extremely proud of Jason's accomplishment and have no doubt that his experiences as Historian will enrich both his life and the lives of the DECA members.
