It is with great pride that the Freeport School District acknowledges Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham, who has received the Distinguished Educator Award for his outstanding contributions to education and for being the first Indian-American Superintendent of Schools in New York State and the first Andhra Telugu Superintendent in the United States. Dr. Kuncham has more than three decades of senior executive-level experience in public education and the corporate world and has played a critical role in various educational initiatives, such as the implementation and opening of the first magnet school on Long Island, the initiation of a Youth Empowerment program at all of the district's schools, and the creation of a science research program, full-day kindergarten program and alternative school in Freeport. Mention something about the Freeport Peace marches.

In addition to his responsibilities as Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kuncham is an executive committee member of REFIT (Reform Educational Financing Inequities Today), serves on the advisory board of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, and is past president of the Nassau County Chapter of NYS Association of School Business Officials. Additionally, he is past vice president, secretary and executive committee member of the India Association of Long Island and has served as an executive member of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Active with the Interfaith Nutrition Network, this year alone Dr. Kuncham raised $30,000 in cash, two truckloads of canned food, and over $30,000 worth of medicines for RotaCare.

He has also received the PTA's highest award, the New York State PTA Distinguished Service Award, as well as the Freeport PTA Council Lifetime Membership Award. Most recently, Dr. Kuncham was the recipient of the Rotary Club's Civic Leadership Award, the SCOPE Award for Administrative Excellence and the Long Island Arts Council Arts in Education Award.
