Freeport Captures the Rutgers Cup

The Freeport Red Devils finalized their season by winning the coveted Rutgers Cup on Wednesday, December 1st at the Gridiron Banquet. This is Freeport's 11th win setting a new record for most wins (Hempstead and Freeport had been tied with each other). The team selected as the most outstanding scholastic football team in Nassau County is awarded the Rutgers Cup. The award is presented by the Rutgers Club of Long Island, which originated this honor in 1937. The award is determined by a vote of the coaches of the teams in Nassau County. Freeport had previously won the award in 2008, 2003, 2000, 1997, 1969, 1963, 1959, 1958, 1956 & 1942.
