Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham and the Freeport Board of Education are pleased to announce that Board member Ronald Ellerbe has been selected as a Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award recipient for 2011. Recipients of the Education Partner Award are comprised of outstanding educators, administrators, board members, community and business leaders, and non-profit organization executives and volunteers and are among the most influential people for public education in Nassau County. Mr. Ellerbe was nominated for the award by Freeport Superintendent Dr. Kuncham.

Retired from a career in law enforcement, Mr. Ellerbe is a graduate of Fordham University and holds a master's degree in public administration from C.W. Post and a Master of Boardsmanship from the New York State School Boards Association.

Mr. Ellerbe has been a voice for the children and families of Freeport for the past 13 years, both in his capacity on the Board of Education as well as on the district's Legislative, Safety and Budget Committees. He is active in the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) and is a member of the Nassau-Suffolk School Board Associations (N-SSBA) Executive Board. Mr. Ellerbe is past-president of Reform Educational Financing Inequities Today (REFIT) and has been a member of the REFIT Executive Committee since 2001.

"It would be difficult indeed to find a person who has given so much of their time and energy to education on a strictly voluntary and uncompensated basis," Dr. Kuncham said of Mr. Ellerbe in his nomination letter. School Board President Debra McQuillan added "Ron's attitude is that everyone, pulling together, can make Long Island a better place to live and a better place for students to get a quality education." Mr. Ellerbe will receive this award at the 5th Annual Nassau BOCES Education Partner Award Ceremony on May 12.
