New Visions Elementary Students Learn About Communities From Freeport High School Peers

Second grade students from New Visions Elementary were visited by their Freeport High School peers for a lesson on communities, including how they work and how citizens benefit from and contribute to their success.

Members of the High School Heroes group joined the second grade classrooms, acting as teachers to help the students learn more about work readiness, how goods and services produce commerce, money and how it moves through a community and voting and civic engagement.

The visit aimed to show the elementary students the different aspects of a community, raise awareness of different job skills and how to make and count money.
Freeport High School Heroes is a business program for high school students that teaches them presentation and communication skills, commerce and other aspects of managing a business.

As the visit ended, both the high school students and second graders found the experience to be fun and fulfilling.
