Freeport Superintendent Call for Applications
This notice serves as a follow up to the press release issued on March 18, 2024, regarding Dr. Kishore Kuncham’s retirement.
The Board of Education continues to work toward finding a highly qualified candidate to serve as the new Superintendent. We have received meaningful input regarding the Superintendent search process by way of last week's focus group sessions with staff and stakeholders.
Individuals who were unable to attend a focus group session may still participate in the search process by visiting the District’s Superintendent Search website: https://www.freeportsupsearch.com/get-involved.
Using the website, individuals may leave a confidential email or phone message for the Board or submit a Public Comment and Input form to the District Clerk. Each of these channels will be available to the public until 3:00 p.m. on March 29, 2024.
Once this process is complete, the Board will announce a call for applications from interested candidates. The announcement will be posted on the Superintendent Search website (https://www.freeportsupsearch.com/about) and the District’s website (https://www.freeportschools.org/news/what_s_new).
Thank you for your continued support throughout this process. While the Board must exercise confidentiality regarding personnel matters, we are mindful of our commitment to the community to provide periodic updates and will do so to the extent allowable.

Freeport School District Board of Education initiates search for next Superintendent of Schools
On March 6, during the Freeport School District Board of Education meeting, Board President Maria Jordan-Awalom announced the Board is undertaking the important task of selecting the next Superintendent of Schools following the resignation in November of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. Dr. Kuncham’s retirement is effective Aug. 20, 2024.
“I would like to once again congratulate Dr. Kuncham on his retirement and express our gratitude to him for his 30 years of dedicated service,” Ms. Jordan-Awalom said.
To aid in the search, the Board has secured the services of Perkins Consulting Group LLC, an international education consulting and search firm. As part of the search process, the Perkins Consulting Group LLC will be soliciting opinions from the Freeport community on the following meeting dates:
Monday, March 18: In-Person meeting at Caroline G. Atkinson School, from 6-7 p.m.
Wednesday, March 20: Virtual meeting via Zoom, from 12-1 p.m. A link will be provided prior to the meeting.
Thursday, March 21: In-person meeting at Caroline G. Atkinson School, from 7-8 p.m.
