Freeport Salutatorian Receives Science Award

Rachel Lalmansingh, salutatorian of Freeport High School's graduating class of 2011, was recently recognized with the Long Island Science Congress Honors Award. Exhibited at this year's Long Island Science Congress (LISC), Rachel's work entitled "Examining the Effect of Increased Dietary Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) on the Mercury Excretion of One Donor within the Autism Spectrum," competed in the final round of the LISC competition. With more than 750 projects judged in categories such as behavioral science, biology, ecology and physics, Freeport was honored to have ten of its students represented. Of the ten students, four received honorable mentions, two received "meritorious" status and three received achievement awards. Rachel, who advanced to the final round, received the Honors Award. "To be part of the Freeport High School Science Research Program and have my work recognized at this competitive event makes me very proud," Rachel said of the award. "I'm honored to have had this experience which will be a valuable asset in my future studies."
