Freeport’s Pride Shows at 2011 Graduation
Posted on 06/26/2011

It was the 118th commencement for Freeport High School (FHS), but for Superintendent Dr. Kuncham it was as thrilling as the first. He approached the podium and proudly told the 431 graduates and their families that this class had accrued scholarships totaling $60,000. He implored them to continue on the path of success, "to be fearless, pursue your dreams and connect with your inner self."

FHS principal Ernest Kight advised them to "Stay strong and keep your head held high…Don't let life bring you down."

Valedictorian Kayla Cruz was humbled by the honor of addressing her classmates saying,"This is the highest honor to be standing here resprsenting all of us." Salutatorian Rachel Lalmansingh emotionally thanked her mother for being her role model.

Board President Debra McQuillan presented the graduates with their diplomas and was joined in congratulating them as they crossed the stage by Dr. Kuncham, Mr.Kight and Assistant Principal Nelson Holland.

Immediately after being instructed by Mr. Kight to move their tassels from the right to the left, caps flew into the air and cheers and applause punctuated the ceremonies. It was a proud day for the Freeport community.
